This Volquartsen stainless 10-22 build has a Ruger "Licorice" hammer forged barrel. Now have two sources for Ruger new take off Ruger hammer forged barrels which perfom well with a little love from cleaning up the chamber to lapping and working on the crown. .Can tweak them myself for noticable inprovement, leave alone or take to a smith with good machine shop skills yo shave a bit off the back to allw recutting the chanber, cleaning up the throat then recut the front to 11 degree target crown, hand lap the bore and especially the throat especially then cryo-trat and refinish. It comes back better than a lot of custom barrels but not with the super top line tube price but if wanting to save a few dollars and have a fine shooting barrel if properly prep the bore and throat you get a a good barrel on the cheap. This build has a KIDD 3 oz/3oz 2 stage trigger in KRG chassis and is topped off with a Leupold MK 4 8.5 - 25 on ARMS #22 rings. Makes for a bit o a mongrel but that is what customizing 10-22s is all about, taking a pile of parts you find on sale or in your spare parts bin then buy the missing pieces and out pops a new rifle.

MORE DETAILLED VIEWS OF RIFLE
Notice the hole in the rear of the reciever which allows for easy proper cleaning of the barrel after pull the receiver out of the stock and remove the bolt. This is a feature that I have found so handy that it is something I look for whenever purchase a custom receiver. Have become so dependent on this feature have the proper jigg and end mill to machine the rear cleaning hole into all my recievers and if see one of my rifles without this its probably going to get it next time I have it broken down or its a low numbers factory rifle with collector value unmolested or potential future collector value if do no more than break it down and add some "drop in" parts upgrades that can be reversed if keep up with the original parts which I do then just make sure the toque value on every screw is prefect. When take your reciever out of the stock remember when it goes back in the action screw needs to always go back to the same torque value.
HARD TO BEAT KIDD TRIGGERS "OUT OF THE BOX"
I have a few Kidd triggers that are stunning out of the box but I just can't afford to drop a $250 to $300 trigger pack into every rifle. When I can take a factory Ruger aluminum or polymer trigger pack and with just uner $100 in custom parts and some meticulous hand fitting easily work a trigger to a nice crisp two pounds or even down to eighteen ounces if its only going to be used off the bench or for sniping tiny chipmunks. I used to look for older used 10-22s with aluminum trigger housings exclusively as donors but the more polymer trigger housings I tune have discovered they have a natural lubricity that allows for a fine trigger pack. I do take in 10-22 trigger packs face to face or by mail and can tune them as far as the customers budget will allow. For the cost of a BX trigger pack I can turn your OEM trigger pack into a better unit than the BX but if you purchased a BX and are not quite sastisfied I can put a tune on it for little money and make it a much nicer unit. if you have the $250 to $500 for an out of the box trigger group thn go for it but keep up with those old OEM trigger groups as people like me can use them.
