STAGE 6

Stage 7 started in Dawsonville which is the town I grew up in.  Dawsonville has seen a lot of changes since I was young.  For a town that didn't even have a red-light a few years ago, the start of a major stage race was almost surreal to me.  We caught the start of this stage and were back home in time to get in a good ride.  If you ever attend a stage race be sure to see a start, and finish and at least one major climb.  Just being at finishes or on the course for every stage will not give you a fair representation of the race.

The U.S. Postal team bus was surrounded by more folks at the Tour de Georgia than at Le Tour de France.  Unless you got a spot staked out early you were so far back that you couldn't see anything.  Although the riders wee signing a few autographs, we had better access to them in France.  The size of the crowds were amazing around postal.  In stark contrast, you were able to walk right up to folks like Mario and get an autograph and your picture taken with him.  I don't think most of the spectators at this race knew anyone other than Lance.
