stage 9 BACK STAGE

Don't think you can just walk into the press area like its free.  You either have to have a Tour issued badge or be invited by a heavy hitter.  We got lucky and made friends with the television folks and managed to get backstage almost anytime we wanted.  What we found out was all of the television and Tour personalities are cycling freaks first and foremost.  When they recognize another gearhead then you are treated just like one of the gang.  The Outdoor Life Network crew was especially nice to us.  They treated us like long lost friends and kept us abreast of what was going on in the race.  If you don't speak French it is almost impossible to stay informed about what actually transpires from stage to stage.
