FIRST AID PLANS/EQUIPMENT ARE MANDATORY

While most of us have a basic first aid kit with Band-Aids, asperin, etc; Is your kit any good for treating severe gun shot wounds? Odds are most curches have a few medical professionals in their congregations from EMT's, paramedics, nurses, possibly a doctor or few to even law enforcement officers and former military with basic combat wound training. Even for those long fom thier training it will come back but is only of use if they have some equipment to work with. Every church should identify their people with medical training, put them in the same room, vote on a Emergency Medical Coordinator and then have a montly, quarterly or annual meeting based on church size and needs to keep all apprised of plans and where equipment is stored.

If the worst case situation happens in your church having the equipment in place to treat field combat wounds will give your assets the valuable tools to save lives as you wait of 911. Im the last few churches I have served we placed trauma kits in the main sanctuary at front, rear and each side of sanctuary in red bags marked "First Aid". Remember, that first ambulance or fire truck that shows up will have supplies for an average run, not a mass trauma so having extra supplies helps First Responders deal with a large number of victims that might be on the edge of living and dying. Every U.S. combat troop carries a pouch called and IFAK (Individual Field Aid Kit) with everything needed sans medicines to treat a myriad of gun shot wounds. An IFAK is generally a bit larger than a softball, very compact but has a ton of lifesaving materials. There are larger kits designed for treatment of multiple victims. I usually suggest a few individual IFAK's spread around the church building and a large multi-victim kit in the sanctuary along with childrens church area. To God be the Glory, lets keep our congregations safe.

SOME SMALL COMMON IFAK'S

LARGER EVENT TRAUMA KITS

IFAK's of different sizes and styles can be purchased from specialty combat medical equipment supply companies, First Aid Companies, Police Supply Companies and even Ebay. I shop carefully but generally can find good kits and really fair prices on Ebay but suggest your have a medical professional help you shop for your supplies. We suggest that each facility has a mix of small and medium/large kits. If have a serious active shooter event how does your volunteer trauma team all work from the same kit. A bigger kit for bulk items and smaller kits to be used as individuals work out toward fringes of event. If asked, we will do our best to help. We will be adding much more information on First Aid regularly.
