The back story, eighteen years old, left for college and after registration with nothing to do till "freshman oreintation" next day figured best use of my time was check out local gun stores in Rome GA. Second store visited was big, people were nice and they had a pile of 5" stainless 1911s, a few "near" commander size but also left hand mirror images of right hand 1911s. Asked a lot of questions as were no full stainless pistols in 1981 as they would gall and slide lock up. Saw semi auto pistols with stainless slide on carbon frame or carbon slide on stainless frame but not stainless on stainless. Also all the different models with right and left hand choice. Owner told me some gun freaks in the aerospace industry left their jobs, used CNC machines to do the machining automatically using a new alloy of stainless they developed. He let me shoot one of his and I left with a 5" south paw and right hand LeMay on lay away. Had to tell a few fibs (suprise expenses), work weekends back home, a campus job weekdays but bought all I could before Randall went belly up.

While had opportunity to buy Randalls when still in business and fairly priced was college kid working part time and finances really limited me. By time got in work force earning a decent wage giving me a few dollars after paid my bills prices on Randalls had gone loopy. From what I understand there are a few men that own over half the total low production models driving prices even higher. Some of these folks if hear of another coming to market have been known to step in and offer seller enough cash to kill "hand shake" deals made. Have personally found five or six online, three in stores, one at gun show agreeing to sellers price and while working out transfer of money or sending FFLs paperwork seller either stopped replying to emails/phone calls or outright said someone else offered enough more than agreed price let it go. Literally put a downpayment on two to hold while went to the bank and before got back were gone. One gave ower $100 deposit was back with cash in under 90 minutes but it was gone when got back, another made downpayment on Saturday (when banks were closed on Saturday) but had my "lay-away' ticket, showed up on Monday but shop owner refunded my money saying decided not to sell. Found one at gun show but seller didn't take credit cards or checks and was short on cash once we agreed on price, left him all the cash had as "deposit" was back in under 20 minutes with cash (another dealer cashed a check for me) but got back to his table and Randall was gone then he tried to charge me a 10% fee to refund my downpayment unless used it to buy another gun he had.
MUCH MORE COMING SOON
