MY 1972 DODGE DART
Here is one of my antique cars. The Dodge Dart Swinger has a 318 with an automatic transmission. It also has factory air conditioning which is a real plus if you want to do some summer cruising. The hood scoops and the orange color are courtesy of a previous owner. The rear spoiler is a dealer installed option. All I need to put this car back in proper trim is a set of original wheels. This car is a tire burning, drag mark laying, circle cutting madhouse. It is just perfect for when you want to cover the neighborhood in tire smoke.
I have been through a good portion of the engine and as far as I can tell it is in near 100% condition. It now sports a Edelbrock aluminum, high rise, dual-plane intake manifold. The "Performer" manifold is topped off with a Edelbrock 600 c.f.m. four barrel carburetor with an electric choke. The air is filtered through a Mopar cast aluminum air cleaner and Mopar cast aluminum valve covers finish dressing up the top of the engine. I have also added a Melling high flow oil pump as an excuse to inspect the bottom end of the motor. This is all fired by a Mopar electronic ignition for reliable sparks.
There is more work to be done on this car but at least it is started. It cranks immediately, sounds good, runs good and is a joy to drive. After changing out the fuel system has much crisper throttle response. On its initial test drive I stomped on the go pedal at about 45 m.p.h. and the back end broke loose and smoked the tires. You just have to love those big secondaries and the massive fuel dump they provide.
The music is controlled through a JVC KD-AR560 head unit. All of the mid and high speakers are Kenwood and the bass is filled in by a Depth Charge 10" subwoofer and 200 watt amp. While the Depth Charge brand is not renown as high end components they came already painted orange so it made the installation much easier. The enclosure is an off the shelf unit that happened to fit perfectly and the power is stiffened up by a 1.5 farad capacitor.
