The British Osprey IV "multicam" military issue rifle rated kit is one of my favorite kits. So much have two and still have a pair of Osprey II kits as backups or loaners such as when go to gun ranges with family/friends. After almost being mowed down by a 14 year old girl who had never held a gun being handed a select fire Uzi with the "fun switch" set to full auto always wear a full kit at ranges. The kit pictured is set up for use with L1a1s, L2a1s or any rifle that uses FAL Inch magazines using RBR NIJ 3/ICW 4 plates for full NIJ 4 protection. Finding Osprey kits with original issue soft armor used to be relatively easy but now seems to be rare and most have whatever surplus soft armor someone can cram inside. All my Osprey 2 and 4 kits have British issue soft armor with 10"x12" NIJ 3a Kevlar backers behind plates for additional ballistic and blunt force trauma protection. Will see this kit on a accurate scale and with six 30 round mags of 7.62x51, four 20 round mags, Icom commercial radio with digital scramble board, IFAK, bayonet for Brit pattern rifles and odd accessories weighs 32 pounds. All magazines are loaded five rounds short as sit majority of time on standby. The other kit carries eight 5.56 Mini 14 mags and is usually paired with a GB factory folder weighing in at 29 pounds.
OSPREY IV "MULTICAM" RIFLE KIT
Above is vest with armor but no accessories added on left and right photos. Center photo shows the entire kit as ships with all accessories before any soft armor is added. Finding British issue soft armor for the accessory pieces can be difficult but have it for one set of shoulder DAPs, two groin protectors and one neck yoke. Below will see the accesories as were unpacked and which chosen to stack out this kit. This pattern is not true Multicam pattern but the closest British could make without violating any trademarks or patents.
Pictured below are the rifle plates used in this vest. Both are 10.5"x 12.5" NIJ 3/ICW 4 with NIJ 3a soft armor backers behind the plates. While this kit is very comfortable and while their sizing system seems complicated once a person nails down proper sizing then proper fit is a no brainer from then on. Next row is the front of the kit with accessories and kit on scale. Notice picture of kit on scale will see the bayonet/fighting knife on rear of vest.
