TRAUMA PANELS AND RIFLE PLATES

While I own well over 200 trauma panels for covert armor my "go to" panel in 80% of my covert kits are Protech Special Threat, Handgun Threat or Multi threat models. The difference between the three is each will stop a different level of high threat rounds but honestly if have any of them over a good NIJ 2 or NIJ 3a main panel your in faily good shape. Because I need comfort as a key part of my kit as if its not easy to wear may decide to not wear it on the day neeeded it most, my most worn covert kit is a NIJ Level 2 kit with a 6"x9" or 8"x10" Protech semi-rigid trauma plate up front protecting my heart and as much of lungs as possible. I wear the largest trauma panel I can fit in the pocket of my carrier.

LOTS OF SOFT & TRAUMA PANELS

While it seems majority of police issue surplus and 80% of trauma panels I find as surplus, used or dealer samples are 5'X8" unless a perp drills a dead perfect center of mass hit their bullet is likely to miss your trauma plate. The outer half inch is not supposed to stop rated threat thus a 5"x8" trauma plate only has 4"x7" of stopping area. Honestly most of my kits will only accept a 6"x9" panel but if figure square inches of protecition its worth the extra money for next size up and if working all day in the field try to wer a kit with 8"x10" trauma panels up front. Some of my kits have pockets in rear and I wear NIJ 2 or 3a soft panels as big as that pocket allows as sitting in truck seat with a rigid panel in the rear will get on you quickly. See the Tramua panel pages for more information.

RIFLE RATED PLATES FOR BODY ARMOR

MORE RIFLE RATED TRAUMA PLATES SOON

On this site your going to see a whole lot of rifle plates of all types except for steel. Most of the people that come to me for rifle plates went to fleabay first, bought a pair of steel plates cheaply then after trying to wear out doing whatever for moe than a few minutes in the heat of summer or even cold weather the weight and ergonomics had them ready to give up on rifle armor. You will se a variety of brands but will say my favorites are Hardwire, Protech, Safariland, Tencate, Hesco (expensive for features), Skaar (expensive but nice), plus a lot of police surplus and some military surplus ceramic. For some reason people are willing to pay double for USGI issue surplus which is way heavy considering its threat rating. Will elaborate more as get deeper into the rifle plate area of site.

ARMOR ACCESSORIES

While trauma plates and stab panels are about the only accessories for soft covert armor most consider there are other things such as special materieals some use in cariers like Thor-Shield that stops electronic dischare weapons like tasers and stun guns. When stacking out a full rifle kit often your going to want a myriad of accessories from IFAKs, radios, spare magazines, and much more. Then when wearing covert armor for a security roll covert communications can become an issue which companies like Safariland have solved with their TCI CIPS kits which give the user ability to hide their radio of phone, route wires inside of shirt or jacket with only a discrete ear piece few notice in todays proliferation of ear buds. having a push to talk switch in cuff of spoart coat or suit coat with hidden microphone in lapel communicating with other security personell without drawing undue attention. For the overt tactical kit robust easy to use PTT switches, ear pieces, headsets, dual radio capability is often necessary and often integrated with your helmet and helmets are another subject will cover. There are all kinkds of plate backers and forced air or liquid ventilation systems, armored gloves, knee pads and more accessories than most have ever imagined that we will discuss as continue to build this site.

HELMETS AS TOUR HEAD IS FRAGILE

MORE HELMETS COMING SOON

If making the leap to overt tifle armor with other accessories may as well protect your head. Even if not taking bullets to the head its amazing how many people are compromised in a tactical situation when bump their head in the dark or diving for cover. Also it protects from spall off rounds landing near you spraying glass, pieces of bullets and other objects at your head. its also a great place to mount accessories such as headsets for radios, night vision, accessory lights and more. Every bedpost of every bed in our house has a helmet in case awake to a tornado, other violetn storm or worse case a home invasion style attack. The ability to cover your noggin while add seeing in the dark almost instanly is a huge advantage.
