ZERMAT SKIING
One look at the Matterhorn in the background and you don't need to know anything else. Zermatt has it going on but its not a bargain destination. For people who want to enjoy the sites, the very ancient history and year round sports of Zermat there are quite a few towns on the train approach that are just a half hour to hours mornignand evening ride from this "must see" place that allow you to add a short train ride to the morning and evening of each day and saves you huge on lodging. One major warning if do this is thee is a "LAST" train out each evening thenyour stuck so if miss that train you will have to sleep under a bench rather than your nice hotel back in some town such as St Nicholous. We almost missed the last train out on Christmas Eve as were totally absorbed in a Christmas Eve church service. You can actually ski into Italy for lunch if you want to from Zermat if want to add a country onto your European list of countries bagged. Make sure and take your passport and enjoy. The Gornegrat railroad is one super kind lift system. This is a must visit ski area along with mountaineering, paragliding, historical sites and even shopping.
