2008 TOUR DE GEORGIA

MORE STAGE ONE

After the start of stage one from Tybee Island we had to pack up the show and move on to the finish in Savannah. A fun but challenging part of our adventure is that we are covering this years Tour de Georgia on our motorcycles. Carol is riding her 2007 H-D Road King and I am on my 1978 FLH. Packing light enough to travel on the bikes and still having what we need is a challenge but we are having a blast.

We blew into town and got to the finish line just minutes before the peloton showed up. I hurriedly found a place to shoot and within moments the cyclists came pounding down the final few meters of the days course. The peloton managed to stay together for the entire stage and the bunch finish, with the sprinters vying for the coveted first win of the race, fought it out like dogs to the finish line.

Ivan Domingaz of Toyota-United took the stage win in an impressive show of sprinting ability. With 50 meters left he had already taken command of the stage and just had to finish it off. Nicholas Sanderson (Jelly Belly) finished second in a photo finish over Robert Forster (Gerolsteiner) who took third. This is the second time Ivan has worn yellow at the Tour de Georgia.

The jersey breakdown goes like this: Ivan in yellow, Greg Henderson in green, most aggressive goes to Scott Nydam and Sanderson wears white. Once the stage was over Carol went and covered the press conference which I will post more about tomorrow. I prepped the motorcycles and when she got back we hotfooted it to Augusta for tomorrows stage finish. Carol is going to take a hand at shooting while I blast home to take care of a business emergency. It is currently 2:46 am and I have to leave at 6:00 am for home so I won't post anything else until after lunch tomorrow. Oh, the sorrow...
