This is possibly one of the top carry anywhere/use for anything from sport, hunting to defense rifles I have built. It's just as handy on the range ringing steel plates or punching paper as it is running night drills in a "kill house" or hunting anything from coyote to deer and even elk based on ammo choice. The combination a 13.7" Noveske 6.8 barrel with Noveske Flaming Pig keeps it from being a potential NFA firearm, is super accurate, directs sound impulse away from operator and hits like a sledge hammer. The foundation for this build is a MAG Tactical Billet magnesium lower paired with a SIG upper receiver holding the Noveske 13.7" 6.8 spc II barrel terminated with a Noveske KX3 Flaming Pig flash can. Like most of my builds this rifle has a FAB defence mag well funnel. The Franklin Armory binary trigger was carefully tuned (I don't reccomend most make any alterations on a binary but I have hundreds of AR 15 trigger jobs under my belt and wanted to lower the pull to 4.5 pounds and it is 100% reliable on single fire, double tap mode or doing full speed mag dumps with a little training on the trigger. The 13.7" barrel with flash can measures 16.15" from bolt face to end of device to make over the BATFE required 16" OAL.
13.7" NOVESKE/Mag Tactical/sig/Franklin Binary BUILD
This rifle is the result of dozens of builds in various AR 15 cartridges and many different components along with looking at what the sporting, hunting and military community was using. The green background photos above are in its configuration before adding a 4x swing up and while waiting for a SIG Romeo 4T ($499 currently) to ship. I like the crispness of the SIG Juliet4 ($399) 4x magnifier at 12.5 ounces but magnifiers can be heavy plus in the way if not using it. A good quick detach magnifier can be carried in a pouch on your kit when its not a needed feature. After trying the 4x SIG Juliet 4 decided the optic was a bit long and heavy for my goals so it now spors a Juliet3 Micro ($189) as seen in all the photos on red background.
While I have several SIG Romeo 5s ($149) on what I call "beater rifles" built out of bargain parts the Romeo 4T is more than three times the price of a Romeo 5 and worth every dime. Its the best $500 1x red dot for this type application I have as is durable, super clear, only 3.2 ounces and night vision compatable. The 2MOA dot is not suddenly the size of a basketball when use a magnifier but choice of five internal reticles gives user the choice to use even smaller dot when in ranging mode and the dots for 200, 300 and farther ranges get smaller as you fall down the row. With SIGs "shake awake" feature plus a solar panel on top operator can leave the site on and it will turn on when pick rifle up and turn off when left alone giving 100,000 hour battery life. Don't know anyone who has had to replace a battry o the 4T. I first became aware of this model when saw it on a British SAS oerators rifle then a quick Goggle search saw photos of the 4T on U.S. Delta Force, 75th Ranger, FBI and other goverment agencies plus other countries operators like the French Foreign Legion
QUALITY PARTS ARE CRITICAL
I usually begin a build by selecting the parts I believe I will need while have another project well under way. It allows time to let them sit on bench in view and as think the project through decide if need to use a different trigger or go with a totally different concept. Will notice their is a box of the MAG Tactical receivers and this is just one of many boxes as I really like the precision machining combined with light weight of magnesium. I usually do not put lights on rifles but the Streamlight TLR-2 IRW is first a infrared laser sight for use with nightvision but also a blinding white light if ned that option. When the magnifier is mounted the rifle has aiming options of a 1x red dot, 4x bullet drop compensation plus I.R. laser aiming in a very compact and light package.
AS ALWAYS BEGIN WITH SQUARING THE UPPER
Most AR 15s, even OEM factory built are assembled on the same receiver most people get if doing a build without any prep such as squaring the receiver. When using "entry level" and sometimes even upper line heavy match upper receivers have been stunned to see how out of square the face where barrel exension meets the upper can be. In fact have had some receivers sent to me that were so out of square that the process to get them squared literally took them out of spec and required a shim for barrel to fit and headspace properly. I would use such for a paperwieght or mixed scrap metal. The founding owner of ARP maker of some of the best mid grade barrels (only under $400 retail barrels I will use) and the ARP "Super Bolt" would not warranty one of the strongest bolts made if builder could not prove upper was squared.
ASSEMBLING THE BARREL ON THE UPPER
LOTS OF GAS TUBE SWAPPING TILL HAPPY
LEFT PIC SHOWS HOW A "PINNED" BARREL SHORTENS A RIFLE
Inside the SIG AR 15 upper receiver is a Colt full auto bolt carrier linked to a LWRCI Advanced Combat "Lobster Tail" Bolt using a Vseven Improved Cam Pin. The build began with a MGI adjustable Gas Tube but it had some interference isues with the forearm I wanted to run. Assembled it again with a milspec gas tube but it was cycling a little too fast for my preferences so it finally ended up with a "pig tail" gas tube that adds length to the gas system thus slowing the bolt from both unlocking and slowing its rate of fire a tad. This will never be a suppressor gun as have plenty and like a few rifles that roar so if someone needs to know they have left the reservation being downrange from a flash can will do it. Will post more soon but wiped for the moment.
FINAL INSPECION USING A BORE SCOPE TO LOOK INSIDE
NOTICE HOW SHORT THIS RIFLE IS TO MOST AR 15 "RIFLES"
The above five shot group was fired at 100 yards with a borrowed SIG Juliet 6x magnifier which is super nice but a bit pricy on my current budget, much heavier and the Juliet 5x "lightweight" magnifier I wanted for the "fast & light" compact multipurpose rifle was not on sale anywhere. The 6x at 14.7 ounces and nearly 6" long is much bulkier than the Juliet 3x "Lightweight" at 9.9 ounces and 3.1". The Juliet 4x and Juliet 5x "Lightweight" models are managable siz/weight but I was offered the Juliet 3x Lightweight new in box for half of retail could not pass up. On a rifle where the magnifier spends more time up for making longer shots or in a pouch on your LBE instead of hanging off the side of gun when using the sight as a 1x CQB optic for room clearing or under fifty yard "run & gun" fast action the Juliet 6x is worth the weight as more glass is more better.

HOW TO INSTALL A FRANKLIN BINARY TRIGGER
Rather than go though installation process of the Franklin Binary Trigger on every build we do please visit the trigger page in our build tips section for instructions on installing the system. Most people I see install these leave the red sticker off that warns people have a three position binary system in hand. I install the label on all my binary builds but being in the print business as well have made some in colors other than red but still bright enough to be easily noticed as someone could easily flip it to binary unknowingly and that round on release may happen when rifle is not pointed in safe direction.
