NON RATED BALLISTIC BARRIER MATERIALS

     There are a wide variety of materials we use for ballistic barriers from polycarbonates, advanced polymer sheets, ballistic fiberglass, specialty steels, aluminum alloys, mild steel in appropriate thicknesses and many more. Some are very expensive and others are quite affordable according to goals. Stopping a handgun bullet is significantly easier to stop than a rifle bullet. We will try to walk you through your options to find materials in your budget to help mitigate any ballistic threats. Even if a material only stops handguns and not rifles, it does absorb a fair amount of the rifle bullets energy making it less lethal. To God be the Glory, lets keep our congregations safe.

PALGUARD ABRASION RESISTANT POLYCARBONANTE

Palguard Abrasion Resistant Polycarbonante is not a ballistic rated product but commonly used in machinry that requires a clear view of surroundings while protecting from flying debris. It is a slightly lower cost brand of polycarbonate similar to Lexan MR5 and others. Its used for race car windshields, logging equipment windows and more. After cutting a new set of windows for a feller-buncher used in logging industry took some scraps and tested to see how bullet resistant it might be. This 1/2" tempered one side stopped ten rounds of 22 Long Rifle without a scuff then has proven over and over able to stop 38 special, 9mm, 40 S&W and 45 acp along with others. With the popularity of clear plexiglas pulpits we use this instead of plexi as pastor is often the primary target. If shooter is using an average sized handgun, pastor can take cover behind this and shooter could quite possibly run out of ammunition before pastor is hit by a bullet. In thicker sizes will even stop rifles.

T6 ALUMINUM

Different aluminum alloys are often used in ballistic laminates of multiple materials. Using the correct thickness and alloy it can be used as stand alone armor plate. You will notice picture on left this 3/8" sheet of T6 aluminum stopped all handgun rounds up to 44 magnum we threw at it. Seems like the bigger the hadgun round, the less it deformes. After laying into it with all sorts of handguns from as close as ten feet backed up to fifty feet and fired one round of 7.62x39 rifle ammunition which is really the weakest of most rifles that might be used in an attack. The round fired was also a very inexpensive and low powered civilian round and blew right through. Hope this shows how much more difficult a rifle is to deal with as compared to handguns.

BULLETS THAT LOST THE FIGHT AGAINST SOME OF THE ITEMS ON THIS PAGE

First picture above is a piece of UHMWPE which is one of the lightest and most expensive ballistic materials can buy in sheet form. Sticking out of it is Federal HST 45 acp hollowpoint fired from ten feet and 25% of the bullet is still sticking out of the face it was stopped so quuicly with minimal backface signature whis we will discuss later. We will be posting more photographs and information on ballistic materials to show how easy some are to impliment. Will also list vendors other than our company as in past have really only worked locally and not equipped to work much outside of the North Georgia area unless its providing items that can be shipped such as pulpits. We will give any advice we can and many of these materials can be installed by most handi-men or contrators. Have even seen church members install bsllistic fiberglass on church work days.
