TRAVELLING THE USA

In some ways this section will be both the hardest and easiest section to build. What is going to add difficulty is the pure work of scanning years of film from the years before digital cameras. I literally have an entire safe filled with slides shot on Ectachrome and Fuji Velvia of which maybe 10% have ever crossed a scanner. I was resistant to digital and while many professionals had already swapped over years before I was still shooting film till I finally broke down and purchased a Cannon point & shoot then quickly added a Nikon D 70 to use my wide assorment of lenses as getting images back to the newspapers and magazines that helped pay our travel costs became more and more important. Can remember hauling a film scanner for several years, rushing a few rolls to a local processor then scanning enough images to get an article back before we were back.

Now I am so lazy half my photoas are taken with a smart phone because its fast/easy, do decent enough manipulation for newspaper printing, write my copy then email it all back in a manner of minutes from wherever we may be with just the phone. sometimes it is a real pile of work to add a bag of camera bodies and lenses to the load when going on an adventure or even just a day of relaxed skiing. That said I keep two DSLRs with an arsenal of lenses but still always have a professional film body and bag filled with film as still love the look of real film usually shooting Ektachrome E100, Fuji Provia 50 and Velvia 100. Yep, still shooting those super slow heavily saturated slide films but often push it by shooting a double its rated speed and let the lab adjust its processing. Its a long way from a 3.2 million gigapixel quartermillion speed digital point & shoot digital but in my basement clicking through my slide projector onto a screen the size of some movie theaters it pleases me. Thus picking through a selection of what I have on digital plus some film already scanned to get this site going then will lay into some real images as able to get them scanned and post processed.
