ASHEBORO BOULDERS
Important Update:
Asheboro is officially closed. Negotiations are underway to get it reopened but climbing is not currently allowed at this time. Please stay away until further notice. If it is reopened it will be posted. Any climbers going there at this time could seriously jeopardize any attempts to reopen it to climbing.
Thanx,
Michael
Old info left for informational purposes only:
It’s all good! After approximately two years of negotiations with the landowner we, The Carolina Climbers Coalition, have officially leased this 105 acres. Known by those who climb there as Asheboro boulders, the southern peak and southwestern slope of Ridges Mountain is covered with enormous volcanic boulders. Most of these huge boulders are strewn over more than 50 acres and reach heights of about 50 to 100 feet. Not to worry though, there’s an abundance of sit starts and most of the boulders fall within “normal” bouldering height. The entire boulderfield is privately owned and until this past August has always been off limits to climbing.
There has been a new gate put up and no
one should ever park in the fields before this gate. This land IS
NOT included in the lease and does not belong to us. There will be a lock
box put up within a few minutes walk after you cross the gate that will hold the
gate key. You will need to take a few extra minutes to get the key and unlock
the gate to let yourself in. I don’t think there will be a need to lock it
back, just make sure it’s closed behind you, the lock put back, and place the
key back into the lock box on your way in. The last person leaving can lock the
gate back at the end of the day. I think this will be one of the most important
factors in our lease, WE NEED TO MAKE
SURE THE GATE IS ALWAYS LOCKED BACK AT THE END OF THE DAY. For anyone
traveling from out of state or anyone who is not a member of the CCC please feel
free to contact myself or any member of the CCC to gain access to the lock box.
The landowner has my numbers and will contact me immediately if there are any complaints or problems that need to be dealt with. The very same goes for any climber, if ANYONE gives you trouble after October please don’t crank off a nasty attitude, just try to get a name and/or who their with and contact me ASAP at 919-708-3799.
I can be reached by e-mail at mddean@charter.net or at the above listed number.
