HAM RADIO TOWERS

Since I have become an amateur radio operator my fascination with antennas has begun to border on obsession.  Add to this my years of experience in mountain climbing, rigging and owning a bucket truck, I seem to be doing a lot of tower work.  As time permits I am going to post helpful hints for working on towers along with my personal observations and experiences.

THE TOUGHEST REMOVAL THUS FAR

This tower was abandoned by a previous owner of this home.  For some reason several of the guy wires had been cut and the 90 foot monster was leaning at a very odd angle and was not secure enough to climb and take down like is custom.  We ended up putting a rope as high as we could, rigged a haul system and felled it like a tree.  This actually worked well and the tree it landed in managed to cushion the fall and there was no damage to the house or the tower.
