AA4BA TOWER ANTENNAS
The most important part of the ham radio system is the antenna. A cheap radio with a good antenna will usually out perform an expensive radio with a poorly installed or designed antenna. All aspects of the antenna system are important to overall system function. The ground is more than a safety system. It enhances the performance of the antennas.
Proper choice of type and routing of coax is also imperative. A cheap and inefficient piece of coax will negate most of the benefits of even a good amplifier. Improperly engineered and installed guy wires can not only cause a dangerous situation due to the tower falling. The guy wires can resonate at some odd harmonic and cause your antennas to lose efficiency. Every facet is important.
For my tower I choose to install a G5RV dipole on a arm near the 55 foot height for its all band performance with an antenna tuner. With my G5RV I have worked all over the world with 100 watts. This is an amazing antenna considering price. Also, I installed a Mosley Classic 33 triband Yagi for several reasons. First was my Elmer, W4TL, gave it too me as a gift. Of course this is a great antenna and it was the perfect size to fit my space requirements. The tower is currently topped off with a Diamond X50 VHF/UHF repeater antenna.
THE ANTENNA WAS CLEANED OF ALL OXIDATION AND THE FASTENERS REPLACED WITH NEW STAINLESS
THE DRIVEN ELEMENT WIRE WAS RESLEEVED WITH 3-M HEAT SHRINK TUBING
ASSEMBLY WAS A METICULOUS PROCESS AND TOOK A LOT OF ROOM
BEFORE INSTALLATION, THE ENTIRE ANTENNA WAS CLEAR COATED FOR ADDITIONAL DURABILITY
TIDYING UP GUY WIRES & CABLE ROUTING
MORE OF THE TOWER INSTALLATION COMING SOON...
