WE4EOC
WE4EOC is housed in the Hall County Emergency Services facility and is operated by Hall County ARES. This station has a substantial list of equipment in addition to the resources provided by our individual members. The intent of this station is to provide the community with emergency communications and coordination during disasters and other times of need.
WE4EOC RADIO SHACK
THE HF RIG AND AMP
The cornerstone of our HF communications equipment is an Icom IC 756 Pro II. This radio gives us the ability to communicate from 160 meters all the way to the 10 meter band. For making those long distance contacts when signals are weak we have a matched Icom PW-1 linear amplifier. With this rig we be assured the ability to get out even in a regional disaster situation.
THE HF RIG AS DEPLOYED AT WE4EOC
As presently deployed our HF rig is easily reconfigurable if the need arises. The remote control head for the Icom PW1 amplifier allows for a multitude of location options. The Hygain rotator control and antenna selector switch give us the ability to choose from our dipole or our yagi and orient it in whatever direction we need. We have an iambic bug for sending code and a SWR meter to ensure that we keep our antennas operating at their optimum.
THE VHF/UHF RADIOS
KENWOOD TM-D700 & KENWOOD TM-V7
THE VHF/UHF RIGS AS DEPLOYED AT WE4EOC
The ARES communications room at the Emergency Operations Center currently has two VHF/UHF radios for our use. Both of these are Kenwood brand radios and work very, very well. We have an agreement with the Lanierland Amateur Radio Club to use their repeater for our weekly NETS and for any emergency. With the coverage of their repeater on Wauka Mountain and our 83 foot tower with two omnidirectional antennas we can cover most of the Northeast Georgia region. In the event that the LARC repeater goes down at an inopportune time we can switch to our alternate simplex frequency and keep communications flowing.
THE POWER SUPPLY & MANAGEMENT FOR THE KENWOODS
HANDI TALKIES
Our onsite portable communications are handled by four Kenwood TH-F6A handi-talkies. These radios transmit on 2 meters, 1.25 meters, and 70 centimeters. The Kenwoods are very small, durable and powerful. They offer dual watch and are weather resistant. Most of our volunteers also have their own H.T.'s so these give us some backups just in case someone is short a radio, or we need operators to be able to monitor a lot of frequencies on a emcomm location.
In the event that we must coordinate communications with a larger group of volunteers such as C.E.R.T. or other groups we have quite a few Uniden FMRS/GMRS radios. These can be deployed as needed to non licensed personnel.
