GUEST SPEAKER STATS

Christine Boskoff:

Christine is the United States leading female alpinist.  She is owner and C.E.O. of Mountain Madness one of the worlds most renown guiding services.  She is the only living American woman to have successfully reached the summit of six 8,000 meter peaks.  Christine has a special connection to the South as she was an Atlanta resident for years when she worked as an avionics engineer for Lockheed/Martin. She was a regular at all of the local crags and was seen carrying big packs up Stone Mountain almost every afternoon.

She climbed her first alpine type mountain, the 17,000 ft. Tarji, in Bolivia.  She started climbing in the Himalayas in 1994 where she climbed Ama Dablam.  She has participated in at least nine 8,000 meter expeditions in which she has been successful on six.  She has summitted Everest from the South Col/S.E. Ridge route and was the first American woman to summit Lhotse.

Christine presently splits her time between Seattle, Washington and Norwood, Colorado.  She is an active rock climber and ice climber in addition to her alpine feats. She has been successful on Broad Peak, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Gasherbrum II, Everest, and Shishapangma thus far.  She has also pioneered many other first ascents in little explored regions of Tibet.

Charlie Fowler:

If I have to tell you who Charlie Fowler is then you may need to decide if you really are a climber but here goes.  Charlie is a photographer and filmmaker who resides in Norwood, Colorado.  With 35 years of climbing under his belt he has climbed many of the worlds most difficult mountains.  He has put up new routes on rock, ice, and in the big mountains.  He has been active all over North America, Europe, the Andes and the Himalaya.

Charlie also has a strong connection to the South being born in North Carolina and being raised in Virginia.  After graduating from the University of Virginia he relocated to Boulder, Colorado where he worked as a computer programmer and a climbing guide.  He has worked for the International Alpine School, Fantasy Ridge and Mountain Madness.  He is a member of the American Mountain Guides Association and is presently self-employed.  Most of his income comes from photography and writing but he still does some occasional guiding. Of late he has been spending a lot of time in the Himalaya and Patagonia.
