1957 corvette custom stereo

This project was for a restomod 1957 Corvette with stereo system hidden as well as possible and still allowing room in trunk for enough luggage to take a trip. So many custom vehicles have every available space filled with speakers, boxes and amps to point a person cannot carry a shaving kit. The first three photos showed the area I was given to build speaker boxes to hold two top line JL Audio 10" subwoofers without any buzzing noises from the cars fiberglass panels, boxes blowing up from the amount of pressure all while giving true bass from a almost invisible package. The material use was 7/8" PVC sheet which is super dense, water proof and U.V. stable with a proper top coat. Except for the head unit which was a DIN chassis modern radio all the speakers were hidden behind the custom upholstery.

CUSTOM SPEAKER BOXES & CAR STEREO

The above speaker box is one of a pair and was a long planned and well designed project.  This was for a well known hotrod shop that started just wanting a hidden subwoofer system then we added a video monitor before the flat screen television market exploded.  It had to fit inside the rear fender wells of a 1957 Corvette, they had to hold 10" JL Audio subwoofers and the entire deal had to disappear into the trunk liner.  I mocked them up onsite with some cardboard, duct tape and a pair of scissors.  Once I had my model, I scanned each piece, sized then in my CAD program and cut them on the CNC router out of 18mm PVC.  They were assembled with screws and glue then wrapped with a couple of layers of fiberglass cloth and resin.  Closed cell foam was cut to fill any voids between them and the rounded inn fender wells to help dampen any transition of vibrations into the cars body creating buzzing or sound travelling any direction but intended. They turned out tight as a drum and nobody could figure out where all that bass was coming from.  I believe a trunk should still have room to carry a long weekend to weeks necessities for a trip.
