STAGE 4 STATISTICS

Stage 4 begins in Dalton which is not very far from Rome where the previous two stages finish.  It goes to Dahlonega for the finish.  Dahlonega is home to the famous Six Gap Century that is renown among southern cyclists.  This years Stage 4 route crosses three gaps of this famous course and even crosses Woody Gap twice, once in each direction.  Of course Woody Gap going towards Dahlonega is more of a small hill than a gap climb but going away from Dahlonega it is a bit of a grunt.

Expect to see this stage break the peloton and leave the sprinters sucking some wind.  This is where the climbers will start to shine and Lance should take the yellow jersey if he doesn't capture it after the Time Trial.  I also expect the local team, Jittery Joes, to make a strong statement here as this is a course they are able to ride quite often.  If mountain stages are your thing then this is where you need to be.  A long day over steep climbs culminating in a fight across three mountain gaps is sure to be exciting.  The finish trends downhill so look for the survivors of the climbs to be fighting it out at very high speeds to cross the line first.

Remember that if you get any real cool shots of this stage or have a comment to pass on to the peanut gallery please send it to bicycling@coolbicyling.com.  For high resolution printable .pdf files of these maps follow this link the the official Tour de Georgia website.
