2005 TOUR DE GEORGIA teams

This years Tour de Georgia has quite a line up of super high quality teams.  It is great to see so many of the European heavy hitters swimming across the pond to take a spanking here in the sunny south.  Other than Lance's win last year the highlight of the race for me was getting to see and meet Super Mario Cippolini.  This years event is going to be attended by so many stars of international cycling that I just can't list them all.  Just follow the links from the team jerseys below to each teams website to find all the information you could want on the individual riders.

While it will be strange not to see U.S. Postal jerseys in the peloton I am very happy that the Discovery Channel picked up the team for this year.  My belief is that our country lost one of the greatest public relations tools we had when the Post Office backed out of cycling.  We could sponsor this team for a decade for the price of one airplane.  When I stood in Paris and watched the U.S. Postal red-white-&-blue take the podium it brought tears to my eyes.  This is something that our entire country, both citizens and government, should have taken immeasurable pride from.  We have dropped the ball but luckily those folks with the Globe for a logo picked it up and ran with it.

The upside is that the Discovery Channel is my absolute favorite network next to the Learning Channel.   With shows like "American Chopper" and "American Hotrod" they have hooked me to the max.  I wish that the Paulie Sr. and Jr. would cut back on the screaming a little but overall it is a very interesting show.  Since my garage is filled with bicycles, Harley Davidsons amd Dodge hotrods these shows keep me glued to the set when they are on.  Now all they need to do is come up with a bicycle show for Lance to host and I may actually become a television watching zombie like the rest of America.  I have also become enthralled with the new "It Takes a Thief" show.

Follow the links below for information on the teams and the sponsors.  Any company that throws there money at professional cycling deserves your patronage.  So after you get through watching American Chopper tonight go out in the morning and buy you a new Dodge truck then swing by your local Trek dealer and fill the back of your new ride with super svelte two wheelers.
