2006/2007 ice Conditions archive

I am going to keep archiving all of the conditions for each year.   I hope that after several years that I will be able to compare the data and notice trends to be better able to predict when we should have ice.  I know betting on weather is goofy but it would be nice to know when the highest probability for local ice is so that I can plan my out of town trips when there are low probabilities of local ice and be at home when it should be good.  If you have any additional info from journals or camera records please let me know.  Even after the fact, more data is more better.

MONDAY: 29 JANUARY 2007

GEORGIA:

Hogpen Gap:  Climbable Ice.

Rabun Bald:  No report.

NORTH CAROLINA:

Hwy 215:  Climbed on 215 both Friday and Saturday, though by Saturday afternoon a lot of Ice was collapsing due to warm weather.  Don't know if today's change will bring it back though.  The ice was pretty good on Friday though. Tim A.

Whitesides:  MR and SS were thin but growing.  The former was TR'd Saturday.Yellow Belly and Honey Brown Ale were led with thin/mixed conditions.  CU is fat and the upper gullies looked it.  Stephen S.

Doughton Park:  I went to Doughton yesterday as the BRP was finally  closed. There was some ice to be had here and there but not much was in. It should be forming though yesterday it was too clod and the water on the south end was locked up tight. The north end was dripping however. Led the gulley, which had fat ice, all the way to the top. It provides for a nice 2 rope length excursion! We TR'd several  thinner lines on the north end. Big Daddy was in pretty fat. The slabbier lines left and right had decent coverage. Pace C.

Cedar Rock & Johns Rock:  Climbed at the Sun Wall of Looking Glass Saturday and was surprised to see a good bit of ice across valley at the lower walls of Cedar Rock (below and to the left of Stone Depot Wall when viewed from the Glass...don't know exactly what area this is but the ice looked FAT!).  Also, John's Rock extension slabs (Left of the main wall viewed from the Hatchery Parking lot) had routes formed top to bottom.  Thanks for posting. Sandy B.

TENNESSEE:

Roan Mountain:  Went to roan yesterday, it was in fat. Led some of the taller stuff.  Aaron B.
