2007/2008 ice Conditions archive

I am going to keep archiving all of the conditions for each year. I hope that after several years that I will be able to compare the data and notice trends to be better able to predict when we should have ice. I know betting on weather is goofy but it would be nice to know when the highest probability for local ice is so that I can plan my out of town trips when there are low probabilities of local ice and be at home when it should be good. If you have any additional info from journals or camera records please let me know. Even after the fact, more data is more better.

THURSDAY: 3 JANUARY 2008

GEORGIA:

Hogpen Gap: No report yet. I'll try to head up today sometime.

Rabun Bald: No report.

NORTH CAROLINA:

Doughton Park: Ice is starting to come in. Big Daddy and the Gulley are thin but climbable. The down side is that the road is still open so climbing is closed. Thanx Mike!!!

Folks... make sure and email your reports. I am down in my back, my wife is sick and the doctor has told her she will be bedridden for a couple of weeks. Other than the odd trip to Hogpen I probably won't be getting out much. biners@crowderinc.com for those reports.

GEORGIA:

Hogpen Gap: Climbable Ice but slowly coming apart.

NORTH CAROLINA:

Hwy 215: No report.

THURSDAY: 6 DECEMBER 2007

GEORGIA:

Hogpen Gap: It has been cold enough for long enough for ice to form here. I went up this morning and the rock was completely dry. This may have been the first time in my life that I didn't at least see water running down the cliff line. The drought has us in a lurch in North Georgia. Pray for rain because without it the cold ain't going to help.

Yonah: No ice but the rock sure looked nice.

NORTH CAROLINA:

Hwy 215: Thin but toproping and some thin leading exists.

GEORGIA:

Hogpen Gap: NADA

NORTH CAROLINA:

Graveyard Fields: Some ice forming but nothing climbable. At least something was spotted though.
